The function of SPD is to rapidly design, develop, test and transfer to production, world class consumer diagnostic solutions in women's health.

SPD comprises of Research and Development (including Science, Design, Engineering, Software and Hardware), Product Support, Clinical Affairs, Statistics & Data Management, Scientific & Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Compliance and Quality Assurance, Customer Support, Sales & Marketing, Product Supply, Project Management, Finance, Legal and People and Organisational Development.

Position Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior UI Application Designer to join our Research & Development department, working on the design, usability and structure of the web and mobile applications for the market leading Clearblue brand.

The role holder is responsible for the design, usability and structure of the web and mobile applications. Having the technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of each platform, the role holder will create an aesthetically appealing and consistent application design for web and mobile platforms, while managing in respect to the higher CPS, the technical requirements/restrictions to develop each platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site map for web and mobile applications. Lead the definition of the UX (User Experience) and user journey.
  • Co-ordinate/manage technical teams in order to set up technical sprints.
  • Ability to lead the design of UI across platforms, taking into consideration platform independent design requirements, such as different browser sizes and OS differences between Android and Apple.
  • Ability to draw up detailed screen design specifications.
  • Perform technical reviews and reports as required.

Beneficial to be able to:

  • Design web and mobile application visual imagery, animations and manipulate digital images in line with the company branding policy.

Compliance/Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of all work carried out in accordance with the companies Quality Management System.
  • Remain compliant with the QMS requirements, H&S requirements, including COSHH and risk assessments.
  • Work cooperatively with all, sharing ideas and concepts to enable achievement of objectives and projects.
  • Transfer knowledge to peer group as and when required.
  • Participate in the implementation of department/company objectives or initiatives
  • Prepare written reports and deliver presentations to communicate work within technical and project team
  • Work on several work packages and prioritise work based on business need
  • Take on additional roles/functions outside of their immediate responsibilities and other duties as become necessary from time to time and as required

Person Specification

  • Must have significant experience in Digital/Web design as a programmer and project manager.
  • Must have strong understanding of web and mobile application frameworks,
    • IOS and Android
    • HTML 5 and CSS3
    • Material Design
    • Apple Design Principals

Experience of Bootstrap and Angular JS ideal.

  • Must have commercial experience with the following:
    • Graphic design, animations and manipulating digital imagery.
    • Producing web design layouts/prototypes (interactive designs).
    • iPhone and Android UI application wireframes/storyboards.
    • Working within an Agile development team
  • Have experience of current UI design principals and concepts.
  • Have UX experience and ability to define user journeys for wireframe generation
  • Must have experience in the preparation of design and technical specifications
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a fast paced environment, as well as a flexible working approach to accommodate the changing priorities of the business
  • Must have excellent communication skills, including report writing and verbal presentation of findings
  • Ability to integrate quickly into the company, forming good relationships within the teams, across departments and with co-workers within SPD and related companies
  • Ability to schedule, progress and monitor tasks within own workload.
  • Take ownership and accountability for delivering result.
  • Processes information quickly identifying the key challenges in complex situations
  • Stays on the leading edge of professional and technical best practice.
  • Experience in application UI design.
    • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator or other visual design and wire-framing tools.
