LOCATION: Leeds, West Yorkshire

JOB TITLE: Policy and Campaigns Officer (maternity cover)

WORKING HOURS: The post works a 17.5 hours a week (The post will require occasional evening and weekend work for which flex time or time off in lieu is usually given)

SALARY & BENEFITS: £19,841 pro rata salary plus Benefits -£9,920 for 17.25 hours a week with a flex time scheme

(This role is to cover Maturity leave-Contract starts: January 2018-Contract ends: 31st August 2018)

THE COMPANY & ROLE: Our Client, a national charity based in Yeadon, West Yorkshire, is looking to recruit a Policy and Campaigns Officer to work within an existing team on a part-time basis.

Influencing those who legislate, commission and provide services and healthcare is a key part of our commitment to improving the lives of people with epilepsy. This role helps to deliver this objective.

With a good understanding of the need for this work, you will be able to participate in research, analysis, consultation responses and campaign development. From behind-the-scenes influencing to full-on public campaigning, you will play a role in improving all aspects of living with epilepsy.

Key Responsibilities:- Policy and Campaigns Officer - Leeds, West Yorkshire
The Policy and Campaigns Officer will work with the acting policy and campaigns manager and senior policy and campaigns officer to research and communicate policy position and response. This covers public policy issues relevant to people with epilepsy. The post also supports change campaigns directed at target audiences including politicians, officials, the NHS, health professionals and the public. The job will focus on a variety of issues relevant to epilepsy including healthcare, welfare and employment.

The Candidate: Policy and Campaigns Officer - Leeds, West Yorkshire

You will need to demonstrate skills or experience in policy and campaigns work and be an excellent communicator. Being able to rapidly understand, and explain complex policy issues, you will be involved in working with our grassroots campaign volunteers. An understanding of the UK healthcare and political systems would be helpful.

As part of a dedicated and enthusiastic team, your work will have an impact on the day-to-day lives of people living with epilepsy, bringing about concrete changes. Working on a wide range of issues, the role will keep you busy and engaged.

Key skills and experience essential:- Policy and Campaigns Officer - Leeds, West Yorkshire


Proven hands-on or academic knowledge of policy, campaigns and/or public affairs with some practical experience
Educated to first degree standard in a relevant field or experience that demonstrates an equivalent knowledge and ability
A demonstrable understanding of and a commitment to equal opportunities, including the needs of different social, cultural and disability groups
Able to work evenings and occasional weekends as required - the job may entail occasional travelling all over the UK and working some unsociable hours

1)Excellent administration and organisation skills
2)Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook or similar software
Experience of creating campaigns materials and policy briefings
Experience of working with officials from government bodies
