BAE Systems Maritime Submarines has been safely delivering world class submarines to the Royal Navy for more than a century. BAE Systems Maritime Solutions is home to the design, build, test and commissioning of the Successor & Astute class - the Royal Navy's latest and most capable generation of attack submarines. In total seven of these state-of-the-art vessels will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.

We currently have a vacancy for a Project Manager at our site in Barrow-in-Furness. This is to ensure the business is ready to build the next generation of nuclear submarine to support the Navy's goal to maintain a Continuous at Sea Deterrent.

Your main responsibilities as a Project Manager will involve:

Developing an overarching PMP that covers the End to End e2e Outsourcing solution incorporating detailed sub-work streams developed by key stakeholder areas (Eng, Supply Chain, Ops, Planning, Commercial, Capacity Planning, Finance and PM)

Supporting bid and tendering processes to ensure bids meet customer needs, in line with business & commercial criteria that all risks are assessed effectively, and that bids are realistic and winnable

Developing commercially viable project definitions to form a basis for developing and prioritising project plans

Developing and maintaining coherent, fully integrated and workable project plans and budgets

Developing resource plans and liaising with all stakeholder functions

Developing accurate estimates in support of bids, annual budgets or cost to completion and analyse "spend to date" data

Controlling, monitoring and managing assigned projects or sub-projects, using techniques such as Earned Value, so that they are delivered to agreed time, budget and quality, regularly reviewing and reporting on progress against plan and where necessary, intervening to resolve issues so that the project is delivered to plan

Developing and maintaining relationships with customers to meet customer requirements, and lead in swift resolution of major issues

Ensuring that activities on assigned projects are co-ordinated with related projects and functional activities so that delays are avoided

Leading, developing (utilising tools such as PDR) and motivating any reporting and assigned staff through good communication and honest open management techniques in keeping with the company values

Building and maintaining effective liaison with all functional groups involved in project/programme delivery

Your skills and qualifications as a Project Manager will ideally include:

Essential:

Degree/HNC/Certificate in Project Management or equivalent

Specialist Professional Qualification/APMPQ

Life Cycle Management (LCM) Assessor

Good communication skills & a sense of urgency are essential

Project Management skills are essential including thorough understanding of Stakeholder

Management, EVM, Resource/Schedule planning, forecasting, risk & opportunity management, change control

Desirable:

Submarine business processes

Good product knowledge backed up by a good understanding of engineering
