Job Description

Project Manager

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

The Successor programme is approaching the transition from design to build. The programme includes a significant element UK/US commonality meaning that the UK built vessels will incorporate US supplied equipment, materials and fixtures using US processes supported by US personnel. The US sourced elements will be supplied to programme as Government Furnished items and as such will require careful management and administration.

A key part of this role will be planning out the various aspects, gaining cross programme support and buy-in, preparing the business for the changes and issues and ultimately acting as focal point for elements of these Government Furnished aspects.

This post will be at the heart of this transition with the opportunity to make a real difference and offers a great insight into the expanding Submarines business.

Your main responsibilities as a Project Manager will involve:

Supporting bid and tendering processes to ensure bids meet customer needs in line with business & commercial criteria that all risks are assessed effectively, and that bids are realistic and winnable

Developing commercially viable project definitions to form a basis for developing and prioritising project plans

Developing and maintaining coherent fully integrated and workable project plans and budgets

Developing resource plans and liaising with all stakeholder functions

Developing accurate estimates in support of bids, annual budgets or cost to completion, and analysing "spend to date" data

Controlling, monitoring and managing assigned projects or sub-projects, using techniques such as Earned Value, so that they are delivered to agreed time, budget and quality, regularly reviewing and reporting on progress against plan and where necessary, intervening to resolve issues so that the project is delivered to plan

Developing and maintaining relationships with customers to meet customer requirements and leading in swift resolution of major issues

Ensuring that activities on assigned projects are co-ordinated with related projects and functional activities so that delays are avoided

Leading, developing (utilising tools such as PDR) and motivating any reporting and assigned staff through good communication and honest open management techniques in keeping with the company values

Building and maintaining effective liaison with all functional groups involved in project/programme delivery

Your skills and qualifications as a Project Manager will ideally include:

Degree or equivalent ideally in a technical subject or suitable experience in technical project management

A proven record in collaborative project management of complex tasks involving Government Furnished supply will be ideal although for the right person we can be flexible. Prior knowledge of submarines is not necessary.

What we're looking for in you:

You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to develop good working relationships. You will have excellent problem solving skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail. You will be confident and a good team player.

Grade: WW12

Salary: Competitive
